Wisconsin: Door County, Egg Harbor The Shallows Resort – Kayaks, Fishing, and Family Vacation Fun.
The summer sun at our back and a Door County map folded open to the HWY42/57 fork in the road, everyone was anxious to get there before the sunset. From the back seat I heard just remember to follow HWY 42 and turn down to the shoreline on county road G. On our left, pasture land framed by a significant cliff line and on our right a wall of mature trees hid the shoreline. The Shallows Resort is definitely off the beaten track; hidden in the woods at the absolute edge of Green Bay.
Internet pictures can sometimes be deceiving but as we turned on to the shaded lane marked for the Shallows Resort our anxiety ended. As nice as the /images/ezine are, in person the place is definitely in the awesome yet family friendly category. From the tennis court in the woods and the flower boxes under the windows to the swing set and the fire pit near the beach, the atmosphere was postcard perfect. And we made it for a glorious Horseshoe Bay sunset, no extra charge for guests.
While our final destination was one of the Shallows vacation homes (The Hermitage for us love at first sight.), during our week in the area we had innumerable opportunities to enjoy the benefits of the Shallows Resort complex. Neat people, nice atmosphere and a chubby cat complete the list of benefits which include complimentary kayaks, bike, bonfires, swing sets, fishing poles, tennis court, summer flowers and a series of one-of-a-kind sunsets.
Description: The resort is anchored along 375 feet of shoreline which slopes gradually into the Bay. Shaded by mature trees and hidden from the road all views point to the Bay. There are a variety of accommodations available so there is a perfect fit for any size family. Options include motel rooms, townhouse units, lake cottages and several vacation homes nearby. Each choice is accurately described at the website and there is not a bad option among them. If it matters, several of the choices offer HBO, HBO Family, ESPN and CNBC as well as high-speed Internet access.
Activities: The obvious advantage of the Shallows location is the Bay. So whether you want to make use of it or just admire it from the shore, it is a bonus. They have plenty of water recreation options kayaks, canoes, and rowboats complete with paddles and life jackets. Swim from the dock; fish for bass from a boat or roast marshmallows at sunset. Play tennis or shoot baskets; swim in the heated pool or ride bikes along HWY G. They have the stuff to create a memorable vacation.
