Minnesota: Detroit Lakes, East Silent Resort Family Vacations with Sand Volleyball, Fishing, and Banana Boat Rides.531MNLakeRide Customize your perfect Minnesota lakes vacation with the endless possibilities. Imagine a cozy cabin in the woods on the shores of a sparkling lake. Then add skiing, tubing, fishing, snorkeling, canoeing, swimming, and boating plus sand volleyball, basketball, lawn games, campfires, bird watching, biking and a safe playground for tiny tykes.

Here's the scoop. East Silent Resort in the heart of Minnesota’s Otter Tail County lakes area, offers families 11 cozy cabins on East Silent Lake surrounded by 50 wooded acres. While the resort has grown and changed over the years but has always focused on family, ensuring that whether guests are looking for lots of action-packed days of skiing and swimming, or peaceful pontoon rides and quiet nights listening to nature, their needs will always be met.

The lake is for fishing. East Silent Lake boasts 310 acres of clear, pristine water, ranging in clarity between 16 and 27 feet.  East Silent Lake is managed by the DNR as a walleye lake, and is thus stocked annually with walleye.  But there are lots of other fish to catch as well, including perch, bluegill, largemouth bass, crappie, sunfish, and northern.  Throw a line off the dock or take your boat to your “lucky spots.”   When looking from our water front across East Silent Lake, your view will be of rolling acres of forest.  East Silent Lake is largely undeveloped, making it a peaceful and quiet retreat, with little activity other than that of the resort.531MNHouse

Accommodations for families. East Silent Resort offers one, two, and three bedroom cabins, that have all been recently updated, are clean and neat, and are well spaced for privacy.  Each cabin has the cozy comfortable feel of lakeside living with all the modern amenities of home.  Each kitchen is fully furnished with refrigerator, microwave, stove, toaster, and coffee maker, as well as dishes, silverware, and all pots and pans needed for cooking. Every cabin also has a shower, satellite television, plenty of linens, and pull-out couches or futons for extra sleeping space.  Outside each cabin is a patio or deck, with picnic table, chairs, and charcoal grill.  The recently renovated Bear Den offers three bedrooms, two baths, sleeping space for 13, a spacious living/kitchen area with flat screen television, and a sun porch and deck overlooking the lake.

Relaxing is easy. If your idea of a great vacation is escaping the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoying the peace and solitude of lakeside living, East Silent Resort is the perfect destination.  Read and nap in your cozy cabin, or lay in the sun or shade in one of our beachside chaise lounges.  Take a leisurely stroll down our tree-lined lane or join us for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate in our care-free lodge.  Get out on the lake in our paddleboat or canoe; listen to the loons and song birds; settle in by the bonfire in the evening and listen to the wood crackling.

Fun stuff for the do-ers. If you’re looking for a day full of activities and fun, East Silent Resort offers plenty of action-packed activities as well!  Get out on the water to ski, wakeboard, tube, or take a boat ride around the lake.  Join us for our weekly activities of a torpedo ride—a banana-shaped tube that seats six and is sure to have a least a couple spills—or the human launch—where our “big kids” jump with all their might to launch another off the end of the tube and into the water.  Both are a real hit for the doers and those watching from the shore. Take a few bounces on our water trampoline, or take out the kayaks, canoes, or paddle boat for a fun ride. For a break from the water, get a group together for a game of sand volleyball, or play a game of bocce ball or croquet.  There’s plenty of space for all your activities and to explore the beautiful surroundings.531MNKidsWelcome

Fun for the kiddos. During the summer months East Silent Resort staff offers daily children’s activities, including arts and crafts projects, three-legged races, sand castle contests, face painting, and bird house making, to name just a few!  East Silent Resort hosts s’mores night once a week.  Join the weekly ice cream social in the pavilion with   lots of ice cream and plenty of fun toppings for big and little kids. Check the schedule of activities sheet in your cabin when you arrive.

Explore the area. If you and your family get the itch to explore the surrounding area, the Otter Tail County lakes area has much to offer.  Just a few miles down the road is Maplewood State Park.  With 9,250 acres, eight lakes, 25 miles of hiking trails, 20 miles of horse-riding trails, rolling hills and an abundance of wildlife and wildflowers, Maplewood holds endless possibilities and is a must-see for East Silent Resort guests.  East Silent Resort is surrounded by quaint little towns with lots of summer activities. There is lots of golfing, other lakes that also have great fishing, and there several museums in nearby towns. Bonus points: Perham, just 15 minutes east of the Resort, hosts Turtle Races for the kids every Wednesday morning, and for the adults Perham has lots of boutiques, gardening shops, and restaurants.

Value added. Each Friday evening all summer long guests may join fellow guests for the resort’s signature cookout where they serve barbeque ribs, grilled chicken, and an assortment of salads and desserts.  It's the perfect way to share memories and pictures with the new friends.
