Crystal Springs Resort, repeatedly acclaimed for its six golf courses, plus hotel and spa facilities, is combining superior links and quality family time with the re-launch of Minerals Golf Club as the Minerals Family Golf Center. Recognizing that golf can be a family sport, Crystal Springs Resort now accommodates families on its nine-hole, Robert Trent Jones-designed, par-3, 2,305-yard course.
 
The Minerals Family Golf Center dedicates a variety of services to families and provides distinctive amenities just for children including: high quality TaylorMade clubs available for rental at just $1 per child ($15 per adult); four-seater golf carts – juniors can actually drive them; family golf rate (beginning at 1p.m.) for either nine or 18 holes-$55/foursome, $45/threesome, and $35/twosome; one kid may play for free with a paying adult any time of day. Parent/child tournaments will be held regularly and a schedule is available at Minerals Family Golf Center. Youthful golfers will find their favorite foods on the junior menu or, if they get hungry while on the links, they can grab a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or other kid-friendly fare from the golf dining cart. Children’s golf apparel is available in the newly refurbished pro shop. Parent/child tournaments will be held regularly and a schedule is available at Minerals Family Golf Center. The David Glenz Golf Academy on the property is headed by PGA National Teacher of the Year. David Glenz, also hosts a junior league offering tournament experiences for young competitors. As the daughter of an avid golfer and an athlete herself, the resort’s CEO and co-owner Julie Mulvihill recognized the importance of teaching the game to the next generation in making the decision to dedicate one of their valuable courses to families. “I’ve grown up in a family business and one in which golf has played a major role,” said Mulvihill. “We’re hoping more and more parents will encourage their kids to take up the game and this new family golf center offers an easy environment to accomplish this, without the pressures and restrictions they might find on some adult-oriented courses.”  

Mulvihill stressed that, while learning the game is important, so is enjoying it. “The best way to learn something is to have fun while doing it,” she said. “We’ve created an environment where the kids will appreciate the cool carts, clubs and food, while the parents have the opportunity to enjoy the game together and pass on their own passion for the sport, just like my own parents did with me.”

Crystal Springs Resort is home to five other award-winning golf courses within a five-mile radius: Ballyowen, Black Bear, Crystal Springs, Great Gorge, and Wild Turkey. Four driving ranges are available through the David Glenz Golf Academy. Golfers can enjoy a variety of cuisine at the clubhouse adjacent to the new 250-room Grand Cascades Lodge, including Four-Star Restaurant Latour with its Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning wine cellar and more casual dining at Crystal Tavern. Separate dining facilities are located within clubhouses at other courses.
