Contest for Young Writers: Tell Mom - Fun or Not? We all know parents and grandparents look at things one way and often kids have a better grasp on exactly what is fun. So, we have created an opportunity for kids to voice their own opinions by telling mom.  

Here’s the scoop. Young writers between the ages of 10 and 18 are encouraged to share their best family vacation experience with us. Winners will receive either a BoomKids.com audio subscription or an Amazon gift certificate. We have three unique topics and want first-person feedback.

 

Topic prompt: “I know a secret vacation place ….” Do you have a cool family vacation spot that does not include long lines and crowds but does have a high fun factor – a yet-to-be-discovered vacation spot?   TheFamilyTravelFiles.com invites young writers to share their insider family vacation spot. Remember if it’s on TV it’s no longer a secret. Please convey with words a sense of being there by answering where, and why and perhaps when? Location on the planet: as a footnote add any pertinent contact information including location address, phone numbers or URL. Submission deadline: December 1, 2010 and winners will be notified by January 4, 2011.

Topic prompt:  “The best beach in the world is ….” If you had to name the best beach in the world could you do it? Share your personal first-person story with us. Please convey with words a sense of being there. The "what" is the beach, made by Mother Nature or created by man but you are going to have to answer where, when, and why? Location on the planet: as a footnote add any pertinent contact information including location address, phone numbers or URL. Submission deadline:  February 1, 2010 and winners will be notified March 1, 2011.  

And now for the rules. Submissions must be at least 250 but no more than 500 words of original text. At least one visual (JPG photo, JPG drawing or video saved .mov or .mpg) must be included with each online submission. Submissions will be placed within two age categories ages 10-14 and 15-18. Entries will be judged on topic relevance, originality of thought, uniqueness of content, and grammar. Three winners will be selected from each age group and the essays will be published with by line in the e-zine at theFamilyTravelFiles.com.  Each winner in the 10-14 age group will receive a BoomKids.com audio magazine gift pack. Winners in the 15-18 age group will receive a $25 Amazon gift certificate. All submissions must be sent to TellMom. Make sure CONTEST ENTRY is in the subject line of your e-mail.
