Georgia: Athens, ArtFest 2012 – Free Summertime Southern Family Fun.
The 16th annual, free four-day music and arts festival in historic downtown Athens, Georgia, a town long renowned for its thriving music scene.
Here’s the scoop. Athens is a family friendly town with plenty of easy going activities available for families any time but of each year in June the city really rocks for kids of all ages. AthFest 2012 will be held from June 20 to 24. ArtFest includes a variety of musical performances, interactive projects, educational exhibits, recreational play area, bungee jumping, drum circles, and artistic endeavors for children of all ages. And the very best news with the purchase of a wristband everything is free of charge.
Hear the awesome music. In the past
AthFest has showcased the best in local, regional and nationally recognized Athens-based talent. In 2010, 200 bands & artists performed on the outdoor stages and in 20 of the town's best music venues. Music on the outdoor stages is free of charge and open to all ages. This year’s artists include span the gamut of entertainment and include: Darnell Boys, Effren, Reptar, Seven Handle Circus, The Breaks, Free Tomorrow, Josh Perkins Experiment, Eddie & The Public Speakers and many more popular bands and energizing entertainers.
See the amazing art. The AthFest Art Market includes regional visual artists displaying and vending their works. Exhibited work can include ceramics, drawings and watercolor, folk art, furniture, glasswork, handmade instruments, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, prints, stoneware, woodwork, or sculpture. And it’s all free of charge.
Location on the planet. AthFest outdoor music stages, AthFest Art Market & KidsFest are located in downtown Athens on West Washington Street between Lumpkin Street & Pulaski Street (near the 40 Watt Club). The special events are in various locations and details may be found at the AthFest website.
Free or almost free. No tickets are required for Outdoor Stages, the Artisan Market or KidFest. Wristbands for the “Club Crawl” are available at www.athfest.com, select stores, the AthFest Merch Booth, and all Club Crawl venues.
Make it happen. Music on the outdoor stages is scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. KidsFest takes place Saturday, and the Art Market will be open all weekend. Package deals including lodging, wristbands, CDs and additional accoutrement are available at
