California: Los Angeles, California Science Center - Endeavour Has Landed.
Exposition Park is now the home base for Space Shuttle Endeavour adding one more reason to the list for making LA a family vacation destination. Here’s the scoop.
Space shuttle Endeavour now has a temporary home at California Science Center concluding its long string of 25 successful missions. It will be housed in the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Display Pavilion until the new Air and Space Center is complete. It’s the real thing.
In a city sometimes described as fake and materialistic the Endeavour adds the real thing – dented, marred, and weathered by millions of miles of space travel. Not polished for TV or cameras, the shuttle will be on public view beginning October 30, 2012. Until the completion of Endeavour's permanent home, a.k.a. the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, Endeavour will be on display in the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Display Pavilion. Bonus points: Along with the orbiter, the pavilion will feature video experiences and significant artifacts such as the Spacehab flown in Endeavour's payload bay on shuttle mission STS-118.
Visitors will begin their experience by visiting "Endeavour: The California Story," a companion exhibit featuring images and artifacts that relate the shuttle program to California, where the orbiters were built. The California Story gallery will also feature components that flew into space with Endeavour including Endeavour's potty, galley, and the tires from STS-134, Endeavour's final mission. Here’s the deal.
