|US Northeast: Summer Family Vacation Deals and Savings.
This page features family vacation ideas and ways to save on your next family vacation or city getaway. I am always watching for ways to add value to family vacations and so I am sure this list will expand as the season approaches. While some suggestions may be time sensitive or seasonal many offer value and savings with no expiration date.
NYC & Boston: CityPASS - Urban family adventure deals. Discovering a city or sharing time with youngsters in an urban setting offers rewards which cannot be measured. One of the best ways to create a city family adventure is with a CityPASS. Urban choices include New York City, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Hollywood, Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Southern California, and Toronto. Here’s the deal: CityPASS provides deep-discount ticket collections to the most popular museums and attractions creating a foolproof family vacation plan with savings of up to 50 % on tickets and admissions. Make it happen: Visit CityPASS Boston or CityPASS NYC- it's a family travel deal.
New York: NYC Take a “name your own price” walking adventure. We all know bus tours can be expensive and generic – no fun for anyone especially kids. This is another city activity which works well with CityPASS. Walk just once with Free Tours by Foot and share a little urban magic. I love these folks – they are young, engaging, and energizing. It is the perfect way to navigate NYC or a sister city because the guides really provide a sense of place. Here’s the deal: Select a tour/walk and simply enjoy the experience then at the end of the tour offer the guide what you believe the experience was worth. Free Tours by Foot may be found in Washington, DC, New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, New Orleans, Chicago, Charleston, and London. Make it happen: www.FreeToursByFoot.com/NYC
Boston: the USS Constitution – Free or almost free. A visit to “Old Ironsides” and the nearby USS Constitution Museum is a terrific way to combine fun and learning. Two floors of exhibits feature more than two hundred years of American history and include interactive exhibits to experience what life was like for a sailor in 1812. Bonus points: The museum has taken the initiative of designating several entertaining spots throughout the museum for awesome family photos. Here's the deal. Admission is free for individuals and families visiting the museum and ship, however a $2 donation per child and a $4 donation per adult is suggested. Make it happen: USS Constitution Museum. Charlestown Navy Yard, Building 22, Charlestown, MA 02129. (617) 426-1812 or www.ussconstitutionmuseum.org
Maine: Farmstays - Low stress family vacations.
When stumped for a family vacation plan with young children I always suggest considering a rural adventure. The obvious advantage is the chance to disconnect, unplug, and slow things down to a lambs pace. While no two experiences will ever be the same I have heard only positive feedback from those who have escaped with their kids. For example in Maine I like Featherfoot Farm a 140-acre organic farm less than one hour from Acadia National Park. They have miles of trails, a pond, plus horses (for riding), cows, goats and chickens on acres of pasture. Here’s the deal.
The family benefits vary by location and season but always offer priceless experiences at a most reasonable cost given the quality of atmosphere and activities. Make it happen:
